- Backgrounds. Digital portraits always include a simple background (like a skyline or a stone wall), but more complex backgrounds like a tavern or wizard's lab are possible. The cost of a custom background is anywhere from $10 to $30 depending on how much detail is in it.
- Extra figures. An extra figure adds 75% to the base cost of the portrait.
- Animals. The cost of an animal companion depends a little on the size. A wolf or a horse is going to cost more than a songbird. You can expect an animal to add anywhere from $5 to $20 to the cost of the portrait. Dragons or other complicated beasties count as extra figures.
- Hard copy. You normally get a hi-res copy of the portrait emailed to you. If you'd like a print sent as well, that's an extra $10 for North American locations and $15 overseas.
A deposit of 50% of the total price is required up front, and the rest is due once you are happy with the rough sketch. Prices listed are in US dollars.
You can pay by credit card through my order page at Kagi Online Purchasing. The second option is sending a cheque or money order by traditional snailmail. This method obviously takes a bit longer.
Once I start work on your portrait, updates will be posted on my Work in Progress page so that you can follow along. I retain the copyright for the private commissions I do, meaning I can reproduce the work for publication or other self-promotional activities. You are obviously welcome to display the artwork on your own website.
Send me an email at eric@mindplaces.com and tell me what kind of portrait you'd like. I'll tell you what it would cost and what my schedule is like, and we'll proceed from there.
